At PVEL we are outraged and heartbroken by the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, David McAtee and so many other victims of racial violence. While recent acts of police brutality have captured the world’s attention, they are only the latest examples of systemic, entrenched racism that has oppressed Black communities for far too long.
We cannot remain silent and stay true to our organization’s values, the first of which is respect. It is time for every organization and every person to stand up and join the fight against racism. Black Lives Matter.
We support the Black Lives Matter movement. We encourage our colleagues and our larger community to take action by peacefully demonstrating, by contacting elected officials, by making donations and by signing petitions. See here for information.
As an organization, we will immediately take the following actions:
- Grow our business relationships with Black-owned companies.
- Amend our hiring policies to specifically encourage racial diversity.
- Continue speaking out against injustice and encouraging our employees to do so.
Clearly, these actions are just three small steps forward. At PVEL, we are engaging in a dialogue to determine how PVEL can better support the movement – and we invite you to share your ideas, too.
